Leuze ET318B.3/4P Diffuse Sensor
The Leuze ET318B.3/4P is a versatile and robust diffuse reflection sensor designed for long-range object detection up to 1 meter. It uses a 620 nm red LED for precise identification across surfaces of varying reflectivity—from white (90%) to black (6%), ensuring dependable operation in applications requiring contrast-insensitive sensing.
This sensor combines compact cylindrical housing (Ø18 mm x 46 mm) with an M18 x 1 mm thread, allowing quick integration into existing systems. Its PNP transistor output supports both light and dark switching, enhancing compatibility with diverse industrial control systems. A built-in Teach button simplifies configuration, optimizing sensitivity without complex setup procedures.
Encased in a durable ABS plastic housing and protected by an IP67 rating, the ET318B.3/4P is made for demanding environments with operating temperatures from -40 to +60°C. The sensor comes pre-wired with a 2 m PUR-sheathed cable, offering reliable signal transmission and flexibility in cable routing.
This sensor is ideal for use in logistics, packaging, machine automation, and assembly lines, where long-range and reliable diffuse sensing is critical.

Applications :-
-
Automated Production Lines
Detects various parts or products moving along conveyors—whether plastic, metal, matte, or glossy—ensuring seamless process flow and minimizing false detections. -
Packaging and Sorting Systems
Ideal for detecting the presence or absence of packages, ensuring that wrapping, labeling, or filling stages operate only when items are correctly positioned. -
Material Handling in Logistics
Used to monitor item flow in logistics hubs, it identifies packages with varying surface characteristics, including dark or non-reflective materials. -
Assembly Line Verification
Detects components at specific checkpoints to verify correct placement or presence before proceeding to the next assembly step. -
Warehouse Automation / Robotics
Mounted on automated guided vehicles (AGVs) or robotic arms for environment awareness and object interaction. -
Plastic or Wood Processing Machines
Monitors the approach of materials on feeder belts, especially useful in environments with dust or vibrations.
Precautions:
- Ensure Correct Wiring: Incorrect connections can cause sensor failure
- Avoid Overvoltage: Operating within 10-30V DC prevents damage
- Protect from Extreme Heat: Avoid installing near high-temperature sources
- Regular Cleaning: Keep the optical lens free from dust and debris for optimal performance
